William P. "Bill" Hanafan Obituary

William P. “Bill” Hanafan, age 89, of Council Bluffs, passed away May 13, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born August 6, 1932 in Council Bluffs to the late Maurice and Eva (Mclaughlin) Hanafan. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1951 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Bill married Angelina Elonich on June 10, 1961. They were blessed with nine children. Bill worked for Falstaff Brewing for 14 years and REA Express for 19 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the V.F.W. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Angelina; son, Tim; brothers, Jack, Donald, Robert and James; sisters, Mary Alice Hanafan and Mary Sealock; son-in-law, Dan Simpson. Bill is survived by his children, Debi (Mike) Koory of Omaha, Mary Fisher of Council Bluffs, Colleen (Todd) Frans of Omaha, Jacqueline (Scott) Watts of Council Bluffs, Wm Sean (Erin) Hanafan of Gretna, Maureen “Peanut” (Scott) Martin of Glenwood, Dennis “Dude” Hanafan of Omaha, Erin Simpson of Council Bluffs; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family, Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites tendered by the Kanesville Honor Guard. A lunch will follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. Memorials are suggested to EveryStep Hospice.
