Mary Lois Sill Obituary

Mary Lois Sill, 94, of Springfield, MO, passed from this life May 13, 2022, in Altus, OK. She was born December 11, 1927, in Jasper, AR, to Joseph and Bonnie (Weaver) Carter. Mary graduated from Jasper High in ‘46 and enrolled at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (“SAGU”) the same year in Ovilla, TX, where she also attended a small community church. Ralph came to Southwestern in January of ’47, and he attended the same community church. One week before school was out, Ralph’s friend asked her to go out with Ralph. The two went on two dates before Mary returned home that summer. The couple corresponded during the summer and on Thanksgiving break, Ralph came to visit and meet Mary’s family. They were engaged during that visit. Mary returned to school in January ’48 and the couple were married March 25, in Ovilla, TX. Rather than a real honeymoon; they went to Oklahoma for Mary to meet Ralph’s family. After Ralph graduated, the couple moved to Wichita, KS. In ’51 they moved to Waldron, KS to pastor a small community church. In July, they were blessed with a baby girl. The small family moved several more times, when God called, and eventually they moved to Springfield, MO, in ’73 where they attended Park Crest Assembly of God Church and in recent years, Battlefield Assembly of God Church. During her career, Mary worked as a dental assistant and as an election judge on the Greene County Board of Elections. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and painting. She was a member of Hillbilly Gardeners Garden Club in Springfield. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Bonnie Carter; her husband of over 63 years, Alva Ralph Sill; their daughter, Alva Ruth “Ruthie” Miller; son-in-law, John Miller; and two brothers, Samuel Henry Carter and James Floyd Carter. Mary is survived by her sister-in-law, Geneva Carter of Jasper, Arkansas; a niece, Pam Mudela of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; extended family and special friends, Jason and Jane Pickering and their children, Joe, Jenna, and Janelle, of Altus, OK. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Jasper Cemetery, in Jasper, AR, under the direction of Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri. Mary's care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
