Obituary

Marie Agnes Smith, 71, affectionally known as “Ree” was born on February 6,1951 in Easton MD to the late Rufus Smith and Nancy Dawson.  Marie departed this life peacefully on May 10, 2022, at Easton Memorial Hospital with her loving daughter right by her side.

Marie received her education at Lockerman High School.  Before her health began to decline, she worked at the Clam House in Ridgely, MD, Smyrna Hospital in Smyrna, DE, with a very close friend Bonita, Allen Foods in Cordova, MD, and New Roads in Ridgely, MD.  During her last years she worked as an assistance at Joy’s Angel Daycare in Goldsboro, MD, alongside her sister friend Joyce.

Marie loved dancing, karaoke, crossword puzzles, spending time with family, going to the slots in Harrington, and taking vacations with friends.  She loved cooking her famous potato salad and fried chicken.  She loved helping take care of the children at the daycare, and her great grandchildren at home, the love they showed her was unbelievable.  She enjoyed hanging out with the Buffalo Soldier’s who named her “Dance Machine”, and her cold sodas lol.  Her favorite songs were “No Pain No Gain” by Betty White, and “Just in Case” by Jaheim.  She always watched Let’s Make a Deal, The Price Is Right, The Young and The Restless, and The Bold and The Beautiful.  Her family will always remember her saying “I’m full grown and I’m on my own" when she didn’t want to be told something or bothered.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Rufus Smith and Nancy Dawson; Aunt Dorothy Johnson; four brothers Linwood Dawson, James Smith, Mervin Smith, Melvin Dawson; one sister Ida Mae Hoxter, and one grandson Kevin Rufus.

Those we love will remain with us forever and left to carry her memories are her loving son Kevin Smith (Angela) of Trappe, MD, daughter Pamela Smith (Marvin) of Trappe, MD, one brother Franklin Smith of Seaford, DE, one sister in law JoAnne Dawson of Ridgely, MD, two grandsons Arthur Jackson (Kristen) of Henderson, MD, Antoine Jackson (Keisha) of Trappe, MD, one granddaughter Arshelle Copper (Charles) of Hurlock, MD, and nine loving great grandchildren who affectionately called her “Nana” Antoine, Kassidy, Khloe, Caydence, Aubrey, Journee, Zyon, C’yanni and Heaven.  Also, to name her closest and dearest friends Carroll and Joyce Wilson of Goldsboro, MD, and a devoted friend McKinley Green “Mickey” of Ridgely, MD. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Those we love don’t go away,

They walk beside us every day,

Unseen, unheard,

But always near,

Still loved, still missed and very dear
