<p class="MsoNormal"><a name="_Hlk103345624"></a>Tapp, Mary Daphne (formerly Smith) (1923 &ndash; 2022) - Passed peacefully away on Thursday May 12<sup>th</sup> surrounded by those who loved her.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Predeceased by husbands Gerald Smith MD. and Max Tapp, her passing is mourned by son David Smith (Maret), daughter Karen Jones (Gary), granddaughters Nancy March (Trevor), Virginia Jones (Brian) and Amy Howard (Ian),and three great grand children Nathan, Adam and Kate.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Mom to her children, Nan to her granddaughters and Nanoo to her great grand children, originally from Grand Falls, Mary was a life long learner, avid traveller and committed volunteer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Through her teaching career at Blackall, Fort William, Fort Townsend, Bishop Abraham in St. John&rsquo;s and in Carbonear, she touched hundreds of young minds.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>This continued in her retirement as Provincial Camp Commissioner for the Girl Guides of Canada when she spent more than a decade running Sandy Point Camp Ground.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Her life was marked by volunteerism, spending more than 20 years behind the scenes at the Happy Tree in St. John&rsquo;s, ensuring happy children on Christmas morning.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>While her family mourns her passing, they are celebrating a life well lived.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>A wake will take place at Barrett&rsquo;s Funeral Home in St. John&rsquo;s on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 2pm-5pm with a private service and internment to follow in Harbour Grace.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary&rsquo;s Anglican Church Good Samaritan Fund or the Happy Tree.
