Al reminisced with his classmates on the great times at Burke High School at their last Class Reunion he attended. Al matriculated at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina and later at the University of Cincinnati.

Wilmot professed a hope in Christ at an early age. His family were faithful members of Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina and he joined the church worshipping and serving alongside his family. After moving to Cincinnati, Ohio, he joined Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and served faithfully on the Trustee Board.

To his first union, two sons were born: Richard and Dr. Wilmot Allen (Ph.D.). He was so very proud of both of his sons for their achievements.

Wilmot enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1956-1958. He was employed with Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company and Traveler’s Insurance Company. She has been his life’s companion and a loving and devoted wife in sickness and in health for nearly fifty years. God gave them two loving children, a devoted daughter, Simeon and a loving son, Bryan (deceased). One of his greatest joys was walking his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day. Wilmot and Joyce have been loving, caring, encouraging, dedicated and devoted parents to the children God entrusted to their care. He will be dearly missed by Richard, Wilmot and Simeon.

Holidays, birthdays, weddings and graduations were all special times for the Allen’s. The house full of family, food on the table prepared by Joyce, the culinary queen, grandchildren in high gear, laughter in the air, and robust conversations about sports, politics, international affairs, etc. was a recipe for joy and happiness. Wilmot expressed his delight in full Geechee dialect.

Wilmot’s resilient and strong spirited nature defied death for many days and nights of suffering until the end when he succumbed to death on Friday morning, May 13, 2022, after a lengthy battle.
