Rose was born July 8, 1935 in Phoenix, Arizona. She passed away on May 11, 2022 at her son’s home in Kaysville, Utah.
Rose was the beloved daughter of Charles Edward Whitaker and Grace Mae Whittington Whitaker. Her childhood was spent in Bronaugh, Missouri until the family moved to Nephi when Rose was 13 years old. It was there that she gained her testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was so proud of her conversion story and never wavered in her faith in the church.
Rose met her eternal sweetheart, Robert George Ostler in Nephi and they were married on May 15, 1953, in the Manti LDS temple. She and Bob made their home in Cottonwood Heights and she lived there for 64 years. She raised 7 children. Rose’s greatest joy was her family and she took great pride in their accomplishments. She was a poet and a member of the Utah Poetry Society where she served as treasurer, membership chair and president. Her poems were published in several poetry books. She enjoyed many friendships with her poetry friends. She loved serving others. She taught Guide Patrol and Primary most of her life. They were her favorite callings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, siblings James Edward, Martha Helen. She is survived by her siblings, Patricia Ruth Whitaker, William (Bill) Whitaker, Margaret Ann (Vern) Hodapp, Benjamin O’Brien Whitaker , Tom (Mary Sue) Whitaker, Maryann, John, Rosemarie, Claire and Kathryn and many nieces and nephews. Her children, Michael (Debbie), Tempe Arizona, Steven (Bobbie), Kaysville Utah, Sally, Valencia Spain, James, Eagle Mountain Utah, Gregory (Lyz), Kearns Utah, Timothy (Kellie), Murray Utah, Suzanne (Brad) Curley, Herriman Utah. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Her viewing will be on Monday May 16, 2022 from 6-8 pm at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd, (7600 S.) Cottonwood Heights, Utah and 10-10:45 am Tuesday May 17, 2022 at the Brighton 6th Ward , 2925 east Bengal Blvd. (7800 S). Funeral services to follow. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Blvd (7800 S).
