Phillip Jay McCray

Phillip J. McCray, passed away on Tuesday, May 10th and is now with his Lord and Savior. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 17 at Thomas Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina, NC. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Phillip was born in Fort Worth, Texas and was adopted by W.J. and Bernelle McCray. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict for 9 ½ years. He received several commendations during this time. He was a member of the NC Quarter Horse Association and served on their Board of Directors. He had a love of horses. Phil also loved his dogs, especially Inky and Sadre, who were a comfort to him. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Scheffel McCray; son John R. McCray and wife Mina of Raleigh, and granddaughter Eva McCray. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Thomas Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff of Critical Care at Wake Med Hospital and Transitions Life Care for the care they provided Phil.
