Maxine Hilker Obituary

 

Paula Maxine Hilker age 92, of Cambridge passed away at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood on May 12, 2022.  She was born on March 4, 1930, at her family farm near Cambridge to William and Mabel (Ridpath) Sayer. She was the oldest of fourteen children born to the family. Maxine graduated from Holbrook High School in 1948. 

On August 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lyman Hilker   Two children were born to this union, Paula and Glenn.  Maxine was a farm wife and when they retired and moved to Cambridge, she began working as a cook at the Cambridge Hospital.  She enjoyed volunteering at the Thrift Shop, sewing, embroidery, and cooking.  She enjoyed her pet dogs and could be seen walking them daily to the post office. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cambridge. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Mabel; husband: Lyman; brothers: Dick, Don, Dean and Terry Sayer; sister: Linda Sayer; grandson: Jeremy Eidson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Larry Mihm; Carolyn Sayer; Evelyn and Vic Meyers; Maxine and Preston Fisher. 

Maxine is survived by her daughter: Paula (Melvin ) Kennicutt of Arapahoe; son Glenn (Shauna) Hilker of Cambridge; siblings: Rolland (Nancy) Sayer of Chadron; Joan (Guy) Richter of Lincoln, NE; Betty Mihm of Omaha; Melvin (Phyllis) Sayer of Kearney; Karolyn (Joe) Brown of Garland, TX; Larry (Kathy) Sayer of Kearney; Gene (Nancy) Sayer of Kearney; Lee (Barbara) Sayer of Firth, NE; sisters-in-law: Joy Sayer of Axtell; Peggy Sayer of  Hurst, TX; seven grandchildren: Tracy Kennicutt, Kory (Lisa) Kennicutt, Ryan Kennicutt, Julie Eidson, Levi (Jenna) Hilker, Pake (Michelle) Hilker; Shasta (Jason) Hambidge; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cambridge. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 10:00 AM till 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM to greet friends. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Cambridge. Memorials may be left to either the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Tri Valley Thrift Shop.
