<p>Barbara &ldquo;Barb&rdquo; Alexander, 84 of Loup City, NE died peacefully Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Azria Health Care Center in Central City, NE. Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City with Pastor Darrell Holzinger officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 16 at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Alexander family or donor&rsquo;s choice. The youngest of ten children; Alice, Betty, Louis, Dorothy, Harold, Bill, Ralph, Jess and Bonnie.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She graduated from North Platte High School in 1956. On June 30, 1957 Barbara was joined in marriage to Calvin Alexander in North Platte, NE. To this union five children were born; Calvin Lee, Jr., Troy, Joleen, Gary and Cathy.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Barbara lived in Loup City since 1962 when her and Calvin moved the family to Loup City when the construction company that Calvin worked for began the Sherman Dam Project. Calvin Jr. began school and they set down their roots. Sherman Reservoir was a source of recreation for many, but maybe not as special as it was to the Alexander family. Barbara and family enjoyed many hours of fishing, boating, swimming, hunting, camping and picnics there. Barbara was a volunteer EMT with the Loup City Rescue Squad for 21 years. For 32 years Barbara hired, organized and drove bus and supervised corn detasseling groups for DeKalb. Barbara was very active with community groups like Girl Scouting and Boy Scouting as well as Community Action. She was instrumental in establishing the Meals on Wheels Program and other community help groups. Through this connection she came to know David and Connie Moore, two teenagers needing a place to live. They became part of the Alexander family. Others called her &ldquo;Mom&rdquo; including Joyce Toczek, and their children still call her &ldquo;Grandma&rdquo;. Barbara had a big heart and loved to share all she had been blessed with, with those who needed her love and care. She was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship until her health required her to be in home care and eventually a resident of Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Barbara suffered from Alzheimer&rsquo;s the past years of her life.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include her children; Troy Alexander of Beatrice, NE; Joleen (Bryan) Kienke of Springview, NE and Cathy Glendy of Loup City, NE; foster-daughter, Joyce Toczek of La Junta, CO; sisters-in-law, Marge Cochran and Leva Cochran of North Platte, NE; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews as well as &ldquo;foster&rdquo; grandchildren and &ldquo;foster&rdquo; great grandchildren.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Cal; sons, Calvin, Jr. and Gary as well as David Moore; parents; all nine siblings and son-in-law, Rick Glendy.</p>
