Dorothy Jean Bowen Obituary

Dorothy J. Bowen Dorothy Jean (King, Price) Bowen, 99, died Monday May 2, 2022 at Wildflower Court, Juneau, AK where she lived for the past 5 years. She was born in Oklahoma City on September 14, 1922 to Rev. J Dean King and Millie L Haines. Two more girls followed, Millideana (Wheelon) and Eleanor R. (Smith) both decreased. During the 1930s, the family lived at Jessy Lee Home in Seward, AK where her parents were missionaries and taught school. They then moved to New Mexico where her father finished his education and returned to Unalaska, AK as a Methodist minister. Dorothy returned to Seward for her last year of high school and again lived at Jerry Lee Home. Michael Price met Dorothy in Unalaska and they married in Bremerton, WA October 3, 1940 where they lived for the next 42 years of their 48-year marriage. They had 4 children together; Michael Dean Price (deceased), RosaLea Carslin of Olympia, WA, Bonnie Dean Lowe of Valley Center, CA, and Judith A Morley (Bruce) of Juneau, AK. Eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren were to follow. After Michael retired from the Bremerton Naval Shipyard, he and Dorothy ran the Seattle Times dealership in Bremerton. After trying to convince ALL of her children to become nurses (and failing), she went back to Olympic Jr. College and became a Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) working at Harrison Memorial Hospital for about 15 years. She retired to Lacey, WA and lived at Land Yacht Harbour. She was an active Airstreamer and travel extensively with Michael until his death in 1988. Dorothy met and married the second love of her life, Ora Dan Bowen of Olympia, WA on December 15, 1991, giving her two stepsons; Dan Bowen and Robert Bowen, both deceased. Wanting to add more adventure to her life, she and Ora bought a Harley Davidson and began attending rallys with the Christian Motorcycle Club of Washington as well as traveling in the Airstream. Since travel was so important to her, when Ora got an 18-wheeler, she went “long hauling” with him across country for many years. Dorothy was extremely proud of being a P.K. (preacher’s kid) and an LPN. She joined a Methodist church in every city she lived in and was always an active participant. She enjoyed traveling, cake decorating, sewing, knitting, cross stitching, puzzle making and many other hobbies. Bingo, penuckle, and solitaire were some of games she loved. Dorothy always loved Alaska and wanted to return and she did in 2012, living with her youngest daughter, Judith. She was active at the Senior Citizens Community Center and took blood pressures for the participates of the lunch program. She also went to the Pilipino Community Hall once a month to preform blood pressures and have dinner. After a fall, she moved into Wildflower Court where she enjoyed many hours of puzzles, sing a longs and friendship. In July, there will be a Remembrance and Burial of Ashes in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bremerton, WA. Memorials may be given to the lunch program of Catholic Community Services of Juneau, 1803 Glacier Hwy, Juneau, AK 99801
