Doyle "Christene" Burton

Doyle “Christene” Burton, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away at University Heights Health & Living on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Christene was born on December 4, 1933, in Burkesville, Kentucky to the late Roscoe and Cecil (Williams) Crawley. Christene was one of ten children. She wed the late James R. Burton in Kentucky. Christene was extremely social and loved her community at Crestwood Village where she resided for many years playing Bingo, line dancing, and participating in numerous other community events. Christene had a green thumb and enjoyed creating pots of flowers with variety. A great cook, Christene was known for her special green beans that she brought to every family gathering, as well as her cornbread. Cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, spending time with her family, traveling, listening to country music, and going to the casino were all things Christene enjoyed. Christene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Howard W. Crawley, Harvey K. Crawley, Mary Elizabeth Sparks, Stanley R. Crawley, Imanell Pierce, T.C. Crawley, Shirley Winfrey, and Helen Smith. Christene is survived by her three sons, Ron D. (Nancy) Burton, Steve D. (Kimberly) Burton, and Jeff R. Burton; a sister, Jeanette Smith; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Visitation will be Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM in the chapel at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. A short memorial service will begin in the chapel on Thursday at 3:00 PM. Burial will take place privately at a later date.
