Bret A. Brown Bret Anthony Brown of Bethesda, MD passed away on May 1, 2022, following a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Born in Indiana in 1949, Bret was one of five children of Ralph and Florence Brown, who later moved their family to Bethesda, MD. Bret attended St. John’s College High School and American University, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in History. Bret joined his father at Ralph Brown Buick, ultimately serving as President from 1979-1985. He then embarked on a fulfilling 35-year career as a Realtor, helping people find and buy homes. Bret was devoted to his wife of 46 years, Betty (neé Elizabeth J. Lane) and their daughter, Sarah. With a sharp wit and generous spirit, Bret delighted in lunching with high school classmates and friends. He was an avid reader, a history buff and a skilled chef. He loved vacationing with Betty and Sarah. Bret found a spiritual home at Church of the Little Flower, serving as lector, sacristan, eucharistic minister and Arimathean. He was a member of the John Carroll Society, Congressional Country Club and Sugar Mill Country Club. Bret is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lane Brown, and daughter, Sarah Lane Brown, of Bethesda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda, MD. Interment private. Visitors are welcome prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Charities (catholiccharitiesdc.org).
