Ralph Vanderlinden Obituary

LAS VEGAS, NV - Ralph Vanderlinden, 87, passed away May 6, 2022, due to the effects of Parkinson’s disease. He was born July 3, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Willem Aart van der Linden and Gertrude (Truce) Anna Blok. Ralph grew up in Salt Lake City where he graduated from Granite High School and achieved an undergraduate degree in music from the University of Utah. As drum major for the university marching band, he met his future wife, Dolores Marie Pedro. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, on June 26, 1959. Together they raised five children. A retired member of the Utah Army National Guard, he served nearly 30 years with the 23rd Army Band, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4) and Commander of the band. In his civilian life, after receiving Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Utah, he had a successful career in counseling psychology that led him and his family to Price, UT. There he was at the College of Eastern Utah (now Utah State University Eastern) as Dean of Students, and then later went into private practice. As empty nesters, Ralph and Dolores moved to Mayfield, UT where he worked for the Utah Department of Corrections in Gunnison. They then moved to North Las Vegas in retirement. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, having held many callings, of which those that involved music were his greatest love. He sang with the North Las Vegas Stake Choir until he physically could no longer sing. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Willem and Truce Vanderlinden, his brother Afton William Vanderlinden, and his wife Dolores Marie Pedro Vanderlinden. He is survived by his current wife Kathleen Weighall; five children - Eric (LaneAnn) Vanderlinden, Centreville, MD; Stewart (Kathy) Vanderlinden, Las Vegas, NV; Shaun (JoRetta) Vanderlinden, Rupert, ID; Trista (Deven) Zohner, N. Las Vegas, NV; Ann (Paul) Anderson, Price, UT; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous four-legged members of the family. Viewing will be Monday, June 6 from 9:00 - 10:00am, followed by funeral services at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Cheyenne & Buffalo Chapel, 3300 N. Buffalo Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89129. Internment will be at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. Services provided by Bunkers Mortuary.
