John E. Mims, Jr.

<p>Graveside services for John E. Mims, Jr., 84, of Perry will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:30 until 2:30 pm.</p> <p>&nbsp;John passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.</p> <p>&nbsp;A graduate from Georgia Tech in 1963, he was a SAC communications officer during the time he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked for IBM as a customer engineer for 35 years.&nbsp; He was a master craftsman of machine and woodworking and was a proud life member of the NRA. &nbsp;&nbsp;First and foremost, he was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.</p> <p>&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Mims, Sr.; his mother, Mattie Musselwhite; and one sister, Rebecca Walker (Jerry).</p> <p>&nbsp;Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn C. Mims of Perry;&nbsp; two sons, John E. Mims, III (Tammy) of Elko and Bill Mims (Traci) of Reynolds; one daughter, Ellen Shipman (Clint) of Byron; grandchildren, Dustin Mims (Shyanne) of Perry, Kasey Brock (Matt) of Elko, Matthew Mims of Elko, Jamie Bobbitt (Michael) of Americus, Brooke Childs (Owen) of Oglethorpe, B.J. Mims (Lindsey) of Perry, Jessie Mantooth of Byron, Evelyn Lairsey of Perry and Wyatt Shipman of Byron; great-grandchildren, M.J.  John passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
