Joseph O. Smith Obituary

Joseph O. Smith, also known as Joe, Dad, Papa’, Junior and Cotton, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 88 years, 2 month, and 9 days. He has joined his parents, Joseph Osburne and Mildred Alice Fletcher Smith and son Michael Osburne Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 wonderful years, marrying in Crockett, Texas, Elizabeth, son Timothy Nolan Smith and wife Jan of Athens, grandsons John Robert Odom and wife Krystyna of Forney, Josef Mikel Smith of Athens, Jakeb Paul Smith of Tyler, and Chisholm Alan Smith and wife Stacy of Corsicana, daughter-in-law, Nancy Pyle Smith of Forney, and numerous great-grandchildren. Joe was born in Jacksonville, Texas on March 2, 1934, and raised in Conroe, Texas before enlisting in the military. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. In 1968, Joe moved his family from Texas to Hamilton, Ontario Canada. The move allowed Joe to work as C.P. A. and continue his education at the University of Guelph, majoring in Chemical Engineering. After completing his education, Joe began working at a herbicide company called Vegetation Control Service. In 1973, Vegetation Control Service became a subsidiary of Dow Chemical and Union Carbide. Joe became the Director and CEO of Vegetation Control Service which through his leadership and business skills landed the exclusive contracts for the Canadian National Railroad. His ability to work with people and strong work ethic allowed Vegetation Control Service to thrive successfully for years. Joe was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge located in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. His work helped assist families and individuals that needed financial assistance during difficult times. In 1979, he moved to Athens, Texas and in 1982 founded the elite, white-gloved transportation company, now Regal Designer Delivery. Joe continued to use his skills with designers/decorators which helped Regal Designer Delivery become a successfully unique family business. His work ethic was passed on to his entire family which enabled Regal Designer Delivery to work for several United States Presidents and many VIP clients to this day. His belief in the success of Regal was a large part of his life. There were many fulfilling times that he experienced while at the helm of Regal. In 2000, he stepped down as President and CEO of Regal, and stayed on as Financial Advisor. Through the years, Dad spent time enjoying his property located in Athens, Texas. His friends and family were a very important part of his enjoyment in life. His final days were at home doing just that. All those who knew Joe would most surely agree. A private ceremonial celebration of life will be held with family and close friends at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your preferred charity of choice. Thank you for your many thoughts and prayers.
