<p>Alan Ray Hine passed away on May 6, 2022, at the age of 72, in his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His battle with serious medical issues in recent months showed his courage in facing life challenges head on. Despite the pain, he stayed strong until the end.</p> <p>Alan was born to Ray and Mickey (McCuiston) Hine on September 2, 1949. The eldest of six siblings, he grew up helping his dad in the family homebuilding business, developing skills he would use later when building his own home. After graduating from Parkland High School, he went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1971. Four years later, he became a licensed Professional Engineer.</p> <p>In 1971, Alan began his 44-year career with the City of Winston-Salem. He spent many of those years working in the Parks &amp; Recreation Department and knew the city&rsquo;s parks like the back of his hand. It was during his tenure there that he developed a keen interest in swimming pool facilities and design and after his retirement from the City of Winston-Salem, he established his own business, Hine&rsquo;s Aquatic Engineering, where he put that interest to use in a second career.</p> <p>Alan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon, and their two children, Stacey Charles Scott of Smyrna, Georgia, and Duane (Erika Pinzon) Hine of Winston-Salem. He had five grandchildren, Charlie and Henry Scott and Kaitlyn, Evelyn, and Kevin Morales. He also leaves behind three sisters, Kathy (Jonathan) Barnes, Veena Devi, and Angela Salzwedel and a brother, Kenneth Hine.</p> <p>Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mickey Hine, his brother, Steve Hine, and his daughter, Allison Gray Hine.</p> <p>A memorial service will be held at Friedland Moravian Church in Winston-Salem on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Reverend Carol Foltz and Reverend John G. Rights will preside. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alan&rsquo;s name to AARF (The Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation) of Winston-Salem at 311 Harvey Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org/donate.</p>
