Frank Agonito, Sr. Fairfield, Connecticut Obituary

Frank Agonito, Sr.

Frank Agonito, Sr., 88 of Fairfield and the beloved husband of 59 years to Barbara Agonito, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 8, 2022. He was born in Port Chester, NY to the late Patsy and Gertrude Agonito. Frank spoke often of his childhood years growing up with his extended family in Port Chester and eventually made his way to Fairfield where he resided for over 50 years. Frank spent his early career working for Consolidated Diesel Electric Company in Greenwich and pursued similar employment, eventually retiring from Fermont Division in Bridgeport. Frank also sold real estate in the town of Fairfield for many years. Frank was a longtime NY Yankees fan and loved to attend home Saturday games with his son, grandchildren and other friends. Frank also had a love of college basketball and was a loyal fan of the UCONN women’s basketball team. He spent many afternoons and evenings watching his grandchildren play sports and perform in theatrical productions. He shared his love of thoroughbred horse racing with all and always enjoyed a good cigar and occasional beverage with his brother-in-law. Frank’s love of family was central to his life. Nothing was more important to him than being with those he loved, especially on Christmas Eve when he enjoyed his Italian heritage and favorite foods. This value of family extended to and included all his longtime friends. It is difficult to count the many people that Frank helped throughout the years. In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his devoted son, Jeff Agonito and his wife, Kathleen of Fairfield; siblings, Joseph Agonito and his wife Rosemary of Syracuse, NY, Patricia Alcantara and her husband Pete of Fairfield, Pat Agonito and his wife Karen of Greenwich and Christopher Agonito and his wife Janet of Largo, FL. He will also be missed by his grandsons, Patrick and Thomas Agonito of Fairfield, his brother-in-law, Dave Mortensen and his wife Sue of SC and many nieces, nephews, and their families that Frank often referred to as his additional sons and daughters. Frank was predeceased by his son, Frank Agonito, Jr. The family would like to thank the caregivers and medical professionals who assisted Frank and his family throughout his recent illness. Friends may greet his family on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church in Fairfield. Interment will be private.
