Laverne Oscar Seitz Obituary

1929 ~ Laverne Seitz ~ 2022

Laverne Oscar Seitz, loved well with a word and a smile. Nothing fancy. Just genuine. Laverne spoke of family, friends, caregivers going beyond expectations, showing him care with a love he himself planted and nurtured. Loved deeply by Christian and Hanna Seitz, Laverne shared that same love and affection with Yvonne (68 years), his boys, Cordell, Tim (Val), Dan (Carol), Todd (Sasha); 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and beyond to families of his brother and sisters, and Yvonne's as well, Harvey (Lorna) Seitz, Doreen (Reuben) Kurpjuweit, Grace (Wayne) Buss, Ruth (Roger) Heidinger, Howard (Gerry) Adam, and Edgar (Mae) Adam. Laverne built friendships with a greeting and a smile; living by the adage that “strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet.” A New Year’s baby, Laverne was born in 1929 enjoying farm life, cowboying and doing what needed doing in the Little Plume area, until falling head over heels for Yvonne and marrying her on October 16, 1954 then becoming dad to 4. Proud to be a dad, of raising a family, of making his independent way while accepting and acknowledging “to GOD be the Glory, great things he has done!” Laverne worked as a ‘Ditch Rider’ with St. Mary’s River Irrigation then became a school janitor in Medicine Hat remembering teachers and students with fondness, satisfied with making a difference in the lives of many. Laverne had a ‘bucket list’ for travel, Germany, Japan and the Holy Land to name a few. Retirement brought time to fish, RV, write poetry/songs, play pool and visit friends & family. Join the family for public viewing from 7-9pm Thursday June 2 at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 1Z5, and at the Celebration Service Friday, June 3, 2022 at 1:00 pm, Hillcrest Church 3785 13 Ave SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 1J2; Smokies and Ice Cream to follow.
