Bonita Conrad Nixon Obituary

Bonita Gayle Conrad Nixon, 78, of Winston-Salem, died peacefully surrounded by her daughters on Saturday, May 7, 2022. She was born in Forsyth County on August 15, 1943, to the late John Gordon Conrad and Mildred Hazel Conrad. Bonnie grew up on the family farm at Century Oak and moved to Fleetwood Circle when she was 12. She raised her family in Winston-Salem, only leaving briefly to Richmond, VA for work with AT&T. She retired in 1999 and moved back to Winston-Salem to care for her mother and father. She is survived by her two daughters, Annette Amory and Selena Nixon; brother Mike Conrad; sister Robin Spillman; three grandchildren; Chase Amory, Jack Amory, and Riley Amory. Bonnie was an artistic free spirit who loved writing poetry, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and planning family gatherings. She enjoyed volunteering at Sunnyside Ministry with Mildred, teaching Sunday School at Olivet, and spending countless hours in her flower garden. What made Bonnie happiest was having her family together, and on Easter, she was known to host the best egg hunts for her grandchildren and all the kids in the neighborhood. She was generous, kind, and always saw the best in everyone she met. She loved with all of her heart and gave so much of herself to others. Family was her sole focus and she loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren. When the grandchildren were young, she would spend countless hours at Toys-R-Us (to a point where her grandkids said “Mamaw, can we go home now?”) Bonnie’s crystal blue eyes sparkled with joy and her selfless love could be felt from every part of her being. She led by example; she was a gentle spirit who never raised her voice and rarely showed anger. To know her and be loved by her was to be truly blessed. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Olivet Moravian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care - Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina 28226.
