Robert Eugene Scovill Robert Eugene “Bob” Scovill was born December 8, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Velma Nellivene (Stark) and Donald Sherman Scovill. Bob spent most of his life in Marshalltown where he attended Marshalltown High School and worked at Marshall Canning Company before enlisting in the Marines. Bob served in the Marines for 2 years and was stationed in China during WWII. Bob worked for Swift & Co. from 1949-1986 (37 years) until he retired. In 1950, Bob married Shirley May Proffitt and they had 7 children together. Shirley died at the young age of 41 from cancer. Bob never remarried, but had a long-term relationship with Betty Krezek from Traer. They enjoyed going to social events and dancing. Bob enjoyed spending time at the stock car races, going camping and fishing, and tinkering with things (bikes & cars). He was active for several years in the local CB club and Parents Without Partners group. He enjoyed going out for breakfast and drinking coffee with his buddies at local hangouts and playing Bingo. Bob is survived by his children: Peggy (Bobby) Washington, Carol Muenzenmeyer, John (Gleda) Scovill, Joe (April) Scovill, Debbie (Robb) Peck, and Penny Scovill-Wise, as well as many grand, great-grand and great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his brother-in-law Jerry Stanton of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (in 1974), his daughter: Gloria Jean Scovill , his parents, his siblings: Margaret & Walter Perkins, Donny Scovill, Jim & Alice Scovill and Mary Helen Stanton, son-in-laws: Gene Muenzenmeyer and David Wise and Jean’s life partner, Susan Diggins. Memorial services for Bob will take place on Thursday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
