Dorothy Creger Obituary

On May 7, 2022, Dorothy A. Creger passed away peacefully at age 91.
Born in Dowagiac, Michigan to the late Walter and Cora Taberski, she pursued her interests in music and was an avid square dancer, pianist, and tennis player. She attended Central Michigan University where she met her husband, Bill, and together they both completed degrees in education. They moved to Alaska where Bill was stationed in the Army and later they taught together in a one room school house on Afognak Island near Kodiak Island before moving back to Michigan.
As the family grew, she shifted her focus to her family. Dorothy displayed a tireless devotion to her children as she taught them all to cook, bake, sew, garden and just play.
Dorothy loved her family deeply. She was so giving of all she could offer. The joy of having us all around the table, eating, laughing and talking over the best food ever gave her great delight. She navigated change gracefully as her seven children pursued adventures of their own, leaving her and Bill as “empty nesters”, but this led them to pursue adventures of their own. Bill and Dorothy moved back up to Alaska where their love for the outdoors flourished. They then back to Michigan to be closer to family.
A life lived is measured by gifts given to those that survive them. The gifts that Dorothy gave to her family are immeasureable. Her family is so grateful for her.
Dorothy was survived by her son William F. Creger, her son Benjamin L. (Gonul) Creger, her daughter Celia A. Creger, her daughter Sally J. Creger, and her son Daniel P. Creger, her grandsons Clay Creger, Drew Creger, Russell (Angelina) Creger, Michael Dykstra, Gabriel Creger and great granddaughter Emira Creger.
She was predeceased by her husband, William R. Creger, and her daughter Amy L. Ferstl, and her daughter Ruthie M. Winslow.
The family will be holding a private service at Fort Custer National Cemetery in August. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Country Cat Lady. (This is where Dorothy adopted a therapy kitty, Daisy, that gave her joy during COVID lockdowns and after.)
