Melville Smith

<p>Melville Ray Smith, 98, of Norwood, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022 at his son&rsquo;s home, after a month of declining health.</p> <p>Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 2:00PM, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. &nbsp; Rev. Mary Hatley will officiate and interment will follow in Norview Gardens, Norwood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.</p> <p>Melville was born March 28, 1924 in Stanly County to the late Matthew and Cornelia Carpenter Smith.&nbsp; Melville proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He was an active member of VFW Post 6183.&nbsp; Melville&nbsp; was a retiree of Stanly Fixtures where he was an installation and plastic room foreman.&nbsp; He attended Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Melville loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.&nbsp; He was a loving father and grandfather.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Dennis Smith and second wife, Marge Roberts Smith; brothers, Lenox Smith, Robert Smith, Spencer Smith, Lawrence Smith and sisters,&nbsp; Annie Ruth Luther and Mary Kate Bowers.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>He is survived by his son, Gary Smith(Pam); granddaughters, Hailey Smith Tyson(Kurt) and Cortney Smith Molino(Dan); great granddaughters, Kinsley and Cohen Tyson all of Norwood;&nbsp; step daughters, Dawn &ldquo;Didi&rdquo; Harrison of Mount Gilead and Melanie Chandler of Gilbert, AZ; step grandchildren, Brian, Heather, Christopher, Peyton and Rachel.&nbsp;</p> <p>The family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Shank and his staff, Connie Greene and Mandy Hartis with Always Caring and Community Homecare &amp; Hospice for their love and support.</p> <p>Memorials may be made to:&nbsp; VFW Post 6183, P.
