Hazel Katherine Wainscott Obituary

Hazel Katherine Wainscott, 81, of North Vernon, joined the Lord in Heaven at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 06, 2022, at home in the company of her loved ones.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Frank McGee will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home.

Born on August 19, 1940, in Indianapolis, Hazel was the loving daughter of Sylmore and Katherine (Green) Longelin.

She was united in marriage to James Michael “Mike” Wainscott on December 19, 1981. They built a life around their love for animals, American and Native American history, and family. They would get up at the crack of dawn to go fishing at Monroe and Potoka Lake and would share their bounty with Mike’s coworkers at Cummins. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2020.

Hazel had worked early on in life at ITT Thompson and Cummins before becoming a homemaker. She loved vacationing in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with her three sisters and husband as well as sightseeing at historical locations and attending local festivals. Animals were one of her greatest passions and she carried this passion down to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Hazel was a devout Christian until the time of her death. She attended Bible Baptist Church for the last thirty years of her life. Her love for the Lord and children shown through her involvement with the church nursery and Bible School.

Hazel will be missed by her siblings, James (Barbara) Longelin of North Vernon, Sandra Fletcher of North Vernon, Glenda (Thorton) Roseberry of Nabraska, and Kian (David) Strope of Scipio; children, Mark (Debbie Carman) Bott, Mike Bott, Ronnie (Dianna) Bott, and Tracey Bott all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Amanda Bott, Sarah Bott, Cody Kreutzjans, Jesse Jayne, Patrick Sons, and Kristy Poore; four great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; seventeen nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylmore and Katherine Longelin; husband, Mike Wainscott; sisters, Elle Mae Celine Beverly, and Mary Elizabeth Longelin; brother, David Eugene Longelin.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the donor’s choice.  

Hazel was a nature lover and she loved Dogwood trees, so we would like to ask that if you can to plant a tree in memory of her.
