Bryan Carlous Saunders

Former Canadian sprinter and beloved family man Bryan Carlous Saunders passed away on April 27, 2022 at the age of 69. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.<br><br>Bryan was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and raised in Toronto, Canada. He competed in his first Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 in the 400 metres and 4×400-metre. He and his teammates set a Canadian record of 3:02.64, which still stands today. Saunders and the Canadian 4×400 team also competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Saunders also won bronze medals in the relay at the 1975 Summer Universiade in Rome and at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City.<br><br>Although he lived a life many can only dream of, Bryan enjoyed the simple things. He loved to cook, and enjoyed participating in the Toronto Ribfest. He loved listening to Gospel music, nevertheless he was never afraid to get on the dance floor. Bryan was also very fond of a quiet evening watching his favorite movies with his family. His smile was infectious and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Metta Saunders, mother Iva Saunders, children Shannan Saunders, Blaine Dean, Olympia W. Crawford, Derice Saunders, Kirt Milligin, Desarea Abbot and 6 grandchildren, 3 sisters and brothers, Aunt Olga, and numerous cousins.
