Glen “Larry” VanHoose Obituary

Glen Larry VanHoose, 79, of Grove City, Ohio, passed from this earth Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at home, after a long journey combating multiple illnesses. The second child of Glen and Margie (Tackett) VanHoose born January 31, 1943 in Patrick, Kentucky, where they lived for many years. Larry, being the mama’s boy that he was worked hard to help his mother daily while his Daddy labored in the coal mines. Having the amazing mother, he did, she bestowed in him, his tough grind work ethics and huge gift for love and care of his family. Larry lived by this always during times of sunshine or hardship. Larry had an array of self-taught skills and talents and could conquer any task or job presented. His passion and expertise were clear to all who worked with him over the years. He was a 45 year (plus) member of Ironworkers Local 172, Columbus, OH and worked for Vampco Metal and Mid-Ohio Erectors building the amazing Columbus skyline. He was also owner/operator of LaVan Towing Services. He was a talented musician, playing his guitar and singing professionally over the years which offered many grand experiences. In healthier times, he enjoyed being outdoors and always got a charge and enjoyment maintaining a well-manicured lawn. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Glen and Margie (Tacket) VanHoose. Father and mother in-law Bill and Ginnie Anderson and five brother-in-laws. Left to cherish a treasured box of memories are his devoted, loving wife Deborah Sue (Anderson) VanHoose of 48 years, dearly loved family: daughter Marilyn Sue (Wayne) Jeffers, son Nathaniel Freedom (Kyndra) VanHoose. Grandchildren, Larry Wayne Jeffers, Karie Sue (Aaron) Holbrook, Kesley Shea Drummond, Hailey Nacole Drummond and great grandchild Aliyah Shea Simpson. Cherished siblings, Jean VanHoose, Patricia Wilbur, Terry (Kathleen) VanHoose, Marcellia Lother Lloyd (Julie) VanHoose and Floyd VanHoose. So many things will be hugely missed. Your perfect smile, your laughter and all the knowledge/guidance you shared. Above all, your never-ending unselfish love and devotion. Larry was the person to count on to be there if needed and was always willing to help others in any way possible. He loved to laugh, enjoyed life, and truly treasured family and friends. When Nathane was a small child, over the years Larry would communicate with him by shouting out the word “toot-toot” and wait for the “toot--toot” back letting him know everything was okay. Our children/grandchildren continue to communicate in this manner and neighbors still playfully recall this. So we knew he was checking on us when we heard “toot-toot” and it will not be the same with the absence of your “toot-toot”. In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. REMEMBERANCE “When I come to the end of my journey And I travel my last weary mile Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned And remember only the smile Forget unkind words I have spoken Remember some good I have done Forget that I ever had heartache And remember I’ve had loads of fun Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered And sometimes fell by the way Remember I have fought some hard battles And won, ere the close of the day Then forget to grieve for my going I would not have you sad for a day But in summer just gather some flowers And remember I am okay And come in the shade of evening When the sun paints the sky in the west Reflect on the happier moments with me And remember only the best!”
