George Robert Docherty, age 51 of Hayden, Idaho went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 29, 2006 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born in Fife, Scotland on December 3, 1954 to John and Sarah (Proctor) Docherty. George moved from Scotland to Canada as a child and spent 11 happy years in Orillia before moving to the United States. He attended school in Alhambra, California and at Cal State Los Angeles. He joined the United States Army in 1973, becoming an expert tank operator and trained fellow servicemen stateside during the Vietnam and Yom Kippur Wars. Following the military he became involved in the movie and cartoon industry, working for Hanna-Barbara and Disneyland. He then worked for Northrup Aerospace developing specialized tools for the B2-Bomber. In 1990 he married his longtime friend, Michele Bond, in San Marino, California. They moved to North Idaho in 1991 where he worked as a senior tax compliance officer for the state of Idaho. George also became active in the Lake City Playhouse as a makeup artist and most recently, the Excell Foundation’s No Moose Left Behind. His interests were cartooning, puppet making, collecting comic books, the beach and traveling to the hot springs in Canada. He loved making people laugh with his quick wit. He was always happy and so full of life. He will truly be missed by his wife, family, friends and those that he briefly touched. He is survived by his wife, Michele of Hayden; mother, Sarah Docherty, brother and sister-in-law John and Dorothy Docherty all of Carlisle, England; son Andrew Docherty, granddaughter Miranda and former daughter-in-law, Debra all of Wagoner, Oklahoma; son Christopher Docherty of Post Falls, Idaho; aunt and uncle, Alice and Harry Alderlys of Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada; aunts Nellie Hewitt of England and Betty Hands of Scotland; nephew Gareth and his wife, Angela Docherty of Carlisle, England; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Keen of Spirit Lake, Idaho; sister-in-law, Carrie Bond of Columbia, Tennessee; brothers-in-law: Geoffrey and Kenneth Bond of Magnolia, Texas; uncle and aunt, Stuart and Inger Keen and cousins, Barbara and Dale Short all of Pasadena, California; and many other relatives across the United States and Europe. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.
