Steven Matthew Garaffa Obituary

Steven M. Garaffa, 37, of Rahway, NJ, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022. Those who knew Steve know how fiercely he loved his family and friends. He was always prepared to do anything and everything to help those close to him. Steve was a wonderful man and a great friend to many. He lived and experienced life with such passion that it was impossible to avoid his infectious joy when around him. Steve lit up the room with his unforgettable laugh (and voice) and personality. Those who had the good fortune to know Steve knew that when he was around, endless laughs were soon to follow. He was loved by many and he returned that same love to his family and his extended family of friends. Steve was born in Edison, NJ and was raised in Colonia, NJ. He attended Colonia High School and Kean University in Union, NJ, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He was a Senior Manager of Rail Operations for Global Container Terminals (GCT) in Jersey City, NJ, for over 7 years. By nature he took a hands on approach and collaborated with his team to make sure the operations he was responsible for were completed beyond expectations. Steve truly enjoyed his career and the camaraderie he shared with his coworkers; as evidenced by the many lasting friendships he made during his time at GCT. Steve was strong-willed, and always aimed to be fair. He stood up for what was right and that sense of justice guided him throughout his life. Steve loved playing basketball with friends, on his own, or just as likely, meeting new people in a pickup game. He was a sports lover to the core and some of his favorite times were spent watching games with friends and family during the NFL season and the NCAA March Madness tournament.... Steve was an avid Chicago Bears fan, always rooting for his team despite the outcome of the season (which we all know wasn’t always/ever the desired outcome Steve and his fellow fans would have wanted). In his leisure time, he also enjoyed cooking, reading, and video games. He very much enjoyed music and had a large and eclectic music collection. In his tireless efforts to fully experience life, there were few activities he was not willing to embrace. He was truly a Renaissance Man. Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Nicole Garaffa, née Davis, his loving mother Lori Garaffa, née Warner, father Frank Garaffa, and devoted brother, Nicholas Garaffa.
