Peter J. Markovich

Peter J. Markovich, 74, of Iowa City, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Iowa City VA Health Care System in Iowa City. A greeting for family and friends will be from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Monday, May 9 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Markovich Family in care of Moises Markovich. Peter was born on August 3, 1947 in Washington D.C., the son of Mike and Mary Lou (Leasum) Markovich. Peter joined the United State Navy in 1967 and was stationed aboard the USS Albert David throughout the Vietnam War. On August 16, 1975, Peter married Sharon Lee Schwanke at the Clarence Christian Church in Clarence, MO. They had three children: Moises, Manuel, and Lian. For over twenty years, Peter worked for IBM. More recently he worked at ACT – Educational Services, then ATOS Technology Company, before retiring. Towards the end of his life, Peter enjoyed exploring new technology, anything that would make his life easier. He liked using Alexa for anything he could find for convenience and trying different gadgets that caught his eye online. Peter had a Ford Galaxy that he was proud of and loved driving around. He was adventurous and was always willing to try out different places to eat. Peter was a Minnesota Vikings fan. He liked talking about football and fantasy football. He liked talking about all sports in general minus baseball. Baseball was a little too boring and he only watched it when it was the playoffs or World Series. He enjoyed spending time with his family. We will miss his sense of humor. Peter is survived by his children: Moises Markovich, Manuel Markovich and Lian Markovich and his sister Cass Nuckles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Mary Lou Markovich and his wife, Sharon, in 2006.
