Duane William Brumbaugh (78), husband of Margret Barth Brumbaugh of Redmond, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at his home. Born March 14, 1944, in Dodge City, Kansas, he was the son of the late William W. and Francis Waters Brumbaugh. Duane William Brumbaugh attended Spearville High School. After graduating, he continued his education at Dodge City Community College where he earned his associates degree in Business. He then went on to St. Mary’s of the Plains University in Dodge City, Kansas where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Following college, Duane had two children, Heather and Sam in Dodge City, Kansas prior to moving to Lenexa, Kansas. Duane’s main occupation throughout his life was that of an accountant. Duane was employed by numerous companies including Crust Busters, Fox Myers, Red Bridge Health Care Center and finally holding the city clerk title in Protection, Kansas. Duane held numerous secondary jobs throughout his life as well. His friends and family would deem him as a work-a-holic. While working at Red Bridge Health Care Center, Duane met his wife, Marge and was married on December 24, 1987. Duane and Marge lived in Kansas City, Missouri; Warsaw, Missouri; Protection, Kansas; and finally retiring in Redmond, Oregon. Duane was an active member of the churches he belonged to with his most recent membership being at Highland Baptist Church in Redmond, Oregon. Throughout his life in the church, Duane was an avid member of the choir and at times even was a choir director. Most people would agree that Duane loved to sing, and they would agree that he was not going to win any singing competitions. Duane volunteered with numerous organizations typically assuming treasury roles with those organizations including the Masonic Lodge, his churches and even in is retirement community of Green Pastures. Duane was a fan of multiple sports teams including the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. Both teams, Duane was proud to display his teams’ flags on his flagpole at his home in Redmond for everyone in Oregon to see. And lastly Duane loved life. He loved his wife, his family, and his friends. He rarely knew a stranger and many times struck up conversations with anyone he would meet. He did numerous things for people most of which only he and the person he helped knows. Overall, Duane loved and was loved by many people. Duane was the beloved husband of Marge Brumbaugh, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. Duane is survived by his daughter, Heather Edmonds and husband Kevin of Olathe, Kansas; his son, Sam Brumbaugh and wife Amy of Centerton, Arkansas; step-son Mark Houghton and wife Jeanette of Protection, Kansas; step-son Robert Houghton and wife Rachel of Battleground, Washington; step-daughter Carol Stoner of Battleground, Washington; step-daughter Vicki Toneges and husband Dan of Redmond Oregon; seven grandchildren Nicholas, Allison and Alexander Edmonds and Skyler and Brooklyn Brumbaugh and Monica and Melanie Peterson; four great-grandchildren Izyk, Dalton, and Phoenix Peterson and Kyra Long; Nephews Mike and Scott Bessey and Kelly and Jesse Brumbaugh; Niece Mindy Brumbaugh; Sister-in-law Cynthia Bessey. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and William Brumbaugh; brothers, Charles Bessey and David Brumbaugh. Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service on Tuesday, May 3 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Fireside lobby at Highland Baptist Church, 3100 SW Highland Ave, Redmond, OR 97756. Those unable to attend the service, there will be a recording of the service available on YouTube available through the church website at: https://www.hbcredmond.org. An additional service will be held later this year in western, Kansas. Details will be posted at a later time.
