Rhoda Elizabeth Nicholls Obituary

We grieve the loss of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who passed peacefully away in Portage la Prairie, MB on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the age of 95. 

Rhoda was born in Portage la Prairie, on August 3, 1926. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary Halliday, her brothers, Bruce and Charles, her husband Allan and her daughter Marie, as well as several other family members throughout the years. Rhoda is survived by her beloved sons Bob, wife Joanne (Saskatoon, SK) and children, Travis, Kelsey and Delaney, and Blair, wife Pam, (Okotoks, AB) and children Devin and Amber, and as well her pre-deceased daughter Marie’s children, Pam, Portage la Prairie, MB, and Patti, Calgary, AB. 

The family lived in Poplar Point until she married Allan and they established a home in Beautiful Valley, MB.  Rhoda started teaching at the age of 16 at the Beautiful Valley School until the age of 19 when she married Allan. She then moved to what was known as the family farm and they raised their family of 3 children. She was a farm wife and stay at home mom who loved to garden and visit with the numerous family and friends who would visit.

After Allan passed away in 1992, Rhoda remained on the farm for approx. 2 years and then moved into Effie’s along the Crescent. She then moved to Oddfellows Towers in Portage la Prairie where she lived for numerous years.  Rhoda spent her last few years of life and was in care at the Lions Prairie Manor at the time of her passing. The family would like to extend they’re thanks to all the staff for their excellent care that she received during her time there. 

Memorial service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 1:00 pm led by Rev. John Dolloff, followed by private family interment at Oakville Cemetery. Following the interment, everyone is welcome to join the family for a time of fellowship beginning at 2:30 pm at Silver Threads Senior Centre in Oakville, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 185 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, Manitoba  R3C 2B7, or to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4.
