<p>Rev. Gene Petty was born, June 22, 1935 in a farm house near Slater, Missouri and went to be with the Lord, April 27, 2022 after a brave fight with cancer. He was predeceased by his first wife; wife Delores (Duncan) Petty; two infant sons, Dexter Wayne Petty and Jerry Dean Petty; his parents, James Wallace Petty and Marybell Petty; and a brother, Joseph Raymond Petty. He remarried on February 6, 1999 to Dorothy Hardeman in Dover, Florida. After finishing his career in Portland, Maine, they moved back to Dover and have lived there for the remainder of his life.<br /> <br /> He is survived by his wife Dottie (Hardeman) Petty of Dover, Florida; a son, Edwin Petty of Bartow, Florida; two brothers, William M Petty and wife, Washington and Jimme David Petty and wife, Lisa; his step children, Steven Hardeman and wife, Mildred; Regina Swindal and husband, Dwane; Jeff Hardeman and wife, Stephanie; 4 step grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.<br /> <br /> He served as pastor of many churches before being elected Secretary-Treasurer, then Assistant Superintendent and then Superintendent of the Northern New England District of the Assemblies of God (New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine). He was on the board of Zion Bible College (now Northpoint Bible College, Haverhill, Massachusetts), Urban Bible Training Center, Tampa Florida and He served as a minister with the Assemblies of God for more than 60 years, Following retirement from district office work, he served many churches in the Peninsular Florida District of the Assemblies of God as interim pastor, assisting the churches in establishing financial stability and securing a new pastor.<br /> Gene never met a stranger and was a true friend to all he met. To many, he emailed words of encouragement and often a short devotional. He also sent daily texts notifying recipients of his and Dottie&#39;s prayers. He enjoyed serving the Lord and serving people his entire life.<br /> <br /> The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the First Assembly of God 602 Charlie Griffin Road Plant City Fl 33566.
