Ruth Evelyn Green was born on February 20 1928 in Rocky Mount, Virginia to Mary Memphis and James Will Holland. She

later relocated to Columbus Ohio, where she resided for more than 70 years. She worked as a Nursing Aide at Mount Carmel Hospital and Plan Parenthood.

She was a kind, generous, and caring woman who was devoted to her family and friends. She was the constant shoulder to lean on and the eternal open ear. Always providing guidance without being judgemental; she had the unique ability to make everyone feel as if they were her favorite.

Her passions included bowling, traveling, going to the casino and family gatherings. An avid bowler, she and her devoted husband Jim “Tiny” Green bowled in several leagues as members of the “Don’t Make No Difference” bowling team. The team bowled in various leagues and tournaments throughout the country winning more than their fair share.

Ruth and Jim made time to enjoy life as they traveled extensively both in and outside of the country, always making sure to find the nearest casino.

Holidays and family functions were especially important to Ruth and her door was open to all. No family gathering was complete without her ribs or a slice of her cheese cake. The cheese cake was often imitated but never quite duplicated.

Until recently, Ruth was in amazingly good health and we’d jokingly credit it to good genes and drinking 3 cups (or more) of hot tea with her own special ingredients.

A spiritual woman, church was always important to Ruth. She attended Refuge Baptist Church and Mt Herman Church and later First Church of God.

Ruth was called home by her heavenly father on April 27th 2022 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by parents, Mary and James Will Holland; her husband, James H Green; son, Patrick M. Preston Jr; former husband and friend, Patrick M. Preston Sr; 6 brothers and 4 sisters and her precious beloved loyal dog, Max who just passed months before.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Kimberly (Ronald) and Shiela Renee (Michael); son, Anthony (Antoinette); step-sons, James “Butch” Green (Charlotte) and Joey Green (Gina); step-daughter, Kimberly Green; sister, Edna Dean (Carrington); brothers, Andrew Holland (Ann) and Agie Holland (Margaret); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren,

nieces, nephews, countless friends and special friend, Ruby; and silent but ever present kitty, Conrad.
