Obituary

Our family lost a legend!

Steve Kurchak, 97, passed peacefully with his daughters at his side on April 26, 2022, in the Personal Care Home in Roblin, Manitoba.

Steve was born in Shell Valley, Manitoba on November 4, 1924 to Peter and Katie (nee Pitz). To sum up his remarkable life in a single column would be impossible. He lived life large and was an incredible force. With only a grade 6 education Steve managed to be a successful farmer, businessman, leader in his church and community. Each of you who knew him will remember him in your own special way. To some he was a kind and fair boss. To others, a great golf partner with a fun filled cooler on his cart. Others will remember him as a strong leader organizing community and church events. Whatever Steve did, he gave his all and went above and beyond. As his daughters, we will remember a loving dad who guided us and gave his love generously. Steve was a Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Uncle who expected family members to contribute positively to their communities, to give more than was expected. A man who had high standards for his family and didn’t tolerate foolish or reckless behaviour. A man who offered wise advice and helped family members through any crisis. A man who loved his family members with a very large heart!

Steve was predeceased by his mom, Katie Kurchak, dad, Peter Kurchak, wife, Pauline (nee Pitz), brother Alex Kurchak, and sister Vicky Borden, sister-in-law Doris Kerchak and son-in-law Barry Burla.

Left to share happy memories are his daughters, Lee Lauzon (Guy), Sindy Baranowski (David), Lydia Steciuk (Stan); nieces and nephews Darlene Bobrosky (Ken), Darrell Kerchak, (Colleen), Darren Kerchak (Alison), Sherry Borden (Scott). Steve was blessed with 9 grandchildren (in order of appearance) Daveian Laliberte (Darcy), Derek Eisner (Florence), Crissy Mayer (Sheldon), Amanda Brindley (Richard), Jordy Steciuk, Jason Steciuk, Joshua Baranowski (Jessica), Jake Eisner, Rebecca Olson (Adam) and 13 great grandchildren who brought him endless joy: Dylan, Ameron, Ayva, and Dani Laliberte;  Easton and Christian Mayer; Molly and Tessa Brindley; Payton and  Connor Baranowski; Riley, Bennett and Brody Olson.

Family and friends were the focus of his life. If you were lucky enough to have known him, we would like you to remember you mattered to him. A lot.

As much as Steve loved a party, we have chosen to have a private family service. We ask that you each take a moment to remember Steve in your own way.  Rather than flowers we ask that you make a donation to the Roblin Golf & Country Club Box 31 Roblin, MB R0L 1P0 or Roblin Cemetery (cheques made payable Municipality of Roblin) Box 998, Roblin, MB R0L 1P0.
