Obituary
Mary Anna Weakley, age 83 of Cobden, died Monday, March 15, 2021 at her home. She was born August 5, 1937 in Irishtown Township, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Leota (Morris) Busch. She married Carl Lafoon in 1955 in Alto Pass. She later married Galen Weakley and he preceded her in death in 1995. Mary is survived by her daughter, Susan (Rick) Sherwood of Cobden; son, Alan Lafoon (Nancy Langford) of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren, Adam (Tonia) Sherwood, Jason (Jaime) Sherwood, Matt Sherwood, and Kristen (Frankie) Williams; ten great-grandchildren, Ethen (Emily) Sherwood, Clay (Martina) Sherwood, Katelynn Williams, Alexis and Shallie Sherwood, Bryan Williams, Noah, Kayla, Ryan and Ricky Sherwood; one great-great grandchild, Kade Sherwood; sister, Bobby Sue (Mike) McCall of New Mexico; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Carl Lafoon and Galen Weakley; and brother Morris Busch. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cobden for many years. She was the president of the Cobden Women's Club, a true Appleknocker supporter and an avid Cubs baseball fan. She loved to quilt and crochet in her spare time. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Cobden with Rev. Ed Falgout officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Cobden. Everyone attending will be required to wear face coverings and observe social distancing guidelines.
