BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Maria Nelda Lozano Ortiz, beloved mother and grandmother, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, the 26th April 2022 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence. She was ninety years of age.

 

Nelda graduated from San Benito High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. She was a dedicated educator in the Brownsville School Independent District for thirty-eight years.

 

Preceding Nelda in death was her husband of forty-eight years, Alberto A. Ortiz; her parents, Rodolfo C. Lozano and Consuelo Noyola Lozano; her sisters, Celina Tijerina and Sally Bove; and her brother, Rudy Lozano.

 

Survivors include her children Victor Ortiz, Linda (John) McAlonan, Laura (Hugo) Martinez, and Lisa (Patrick) Halstead; her eleven grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Howard) Palter. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

 

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, the 2nd of May 2022 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Monday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 3rd of May 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
