Alfred Rex Casad

<p>Alfred Casad, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday, April 22, 2022, surrounded by children and grandchildren, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.</p> <p>Alfred was born April 2, 1940, to Joseph and Alma (Jackson) Casad in Clinton, Iowa. He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1958. He attended Iowa State University and was a lifelong Cyclone fan. He married Maria Soenksen in 1962, and they had 3 children. Alfred served in the Iowa National Guard and Army Reserve. He farmed his whole life in the Clinton County area. In addition to growing corn and soybeans, he raised cattle, did custom farming, and calibrated corn meters for precision planting. He was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt, where he was active in various capacities. He was also on the Central Community School Board, and served as president. Alfred enjoyed spending time with his many lifelong friends, participating in slow pitch softball, card clubs, and attending community dinners and events.</p> <p>Alfred later married Sharon Jurgensen on August 14, 1999. They were active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, where they enjoyed being a part of the Prime Time Group. Alfred and Sharon kept busy wintering in Texas, riding in tractor-cades, hosting hayrides, and traveling to spend time with friends and family. As Sharon&rsquo;s health declined, Alfred remained her faithful caregiver. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2022.</p> <p>He is survived by his children, Dean (Jennifer) Casad of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Julianne (Kevin) Christensen of Ankeny, and daughter-in-law, Annette Casad of Davenport; grandchildren, Brianna&nbsp;(John Rolf), Nathan, Morgan, Liam, James, Rebecca, Renee, Allison, Caitlin, and Madeline; siblings, Carolyn (Alan) Stampe, and Tom (Linda) Casad; brother-in-law, Jim (Anna Testone) Blanche; nieces and nephews; step-daughters, Cyndi Jurgensen, and Kim (Richard) Ranicke; 6 step-grandchildren, Payne Ranicke, Samantha (Charlie) Tarter, Heidi (Bill) Barlas, Chase, Leeza, and Christian Ranicke; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.</p> <p>In addition to his wife, Sharon, he was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jane Casad and Nancy Blanche, nephew, Matt Blanche, and son, Douglas Casad.</p> <p>Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time of 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with Pastor Megan Eide officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.</p> <p>Pallbearers will be Nathan Christensen, James Casad, Liam Christensen, Bradley Mattingly, Robert Barber, and David Mangan.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made directly to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org, or a charity of choice.</p> <p>Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.
