Joyce L. Carr passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the age of 87 following a sudden illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Maude and Jesse Carpenter; her sister Goldie Smith, who raised her and whom she called Mom; her brothers, Ode, Isam, and Cecil Carpenter; her husband of 58 years, Paul Carr; daughter Billy Joyce (B. Jo.) Ferry, and stepson Ronald Carr.

She is survived by her daughter Peggy Hayes (Oliver); grandchildren Laura Miller, David Ferry (Tracie), and Kimberly Cochran (Chad).

Joyce was born in Logan, West Virginia.  She came to live in Akron in 1954, where she met and later married Paul.  She was an immaculate home maker for many years.  She became employed in 1968 at Industrial Art Craft where she first worked as a punch press operator then a mold finisher for 28 years until her retirement in 1996. 

Joyce was a fabulous cook and could make anything she made her mind up to fix.  She was known for her extraordinary pound cake, and wonderful trays of baklava at Christmas time.  She loved to feed people and couldn't stand the thought of anybody going the least little bit hungry and derived great pleasure from watching others enjoy her cooking.  She was an avid gardener and grew splendid flower gardens and giant German tomato plants.  She loved animals and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and other animals in her tranquil backyard. She adored her constant companion Black Lab Brandy and her kitty with a little gray spot on her nose Baby.

The family would like to give special thanks to Kris and all of the hospice nurses at Summa Akron City for their wonderful care.   

Calling hours will be Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 6:00-8:00PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240.  Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 2022 at 12:30PM at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield.
