Joyce A. Van Der Puy Obituary

Joyce Ann Van Der Puy (nee Baumann), age 89, of Sheboygan passed away on April 24, 2022, at St. Nicholas Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born in Sheboygan on August 1, 1932, to the late Otto and Jennie (Kaat) Baumann.  She attended local schools.  Joyce worked at the family business, Paper Box & Specialty, as a machine operator and assembly.

On May 4, 1951, Joyce married Wilbert Van Der Puy at First Christian Reformed Church which is now Christ Community Church, where Joyce was involved in the Ruth Society, Deo Gloria Choir and Vacation Bible School.  Wilbert preceded her in death on November 14, 2014.

She was affiliated with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, being a big sister for 12 years.  March of Dimes was also very important to Joyce where she was the Ward 27 Lieutenant for many years.  Mothers marched to raise funds for medical aid, especially for children with birth defects, crippling arthritis, and Polio vaccines.

Joyce enjoyed flower gardening, crafting, camping, knitting, and traveling.  Above all, Joyce loved making memories with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Trudy) Van Der Puy of Oostburg, Jeffrey Van Der Puy of Orlando, FL, and Julie (Jon) Gabrielse of Sheboygan; six granddaughters, Angela (Shawn) Spearman, Tiffany (Alfredo) Varela, Christine (Junwen) Lin, Amy (Joshua) Holte, Heidi (Joseph) Cotton, and Sarah (John) Lutgendorff; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ian Spearman, Farryn and Eily Varela, Avonlea Lin, Elizabeth and Finley Holte, and Rose, Cora and Lily Cotton; a sister Carol (Jack) Schroeder; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Suzanne Van Der Puy; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Along with her husband Wilbert, Joyce was preceded in death by siblings, William (Beatrice), Arthur (Irene), Donald, Alfred (Charmaine), LeRoy (Mary), Viola (Wesley) and Lorraine; many sisters and brothers-in-law.

A Funeral Service for Joyce will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Christ Community Church, 428 Geele Ave. in Sheboygan with Pastor Josh Van Engen officiating.  Family will greet visitors on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Joyce will be laid to rest next to Wilbert at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.  For those who would like to watch Joyce’s service virtually can do so on her obituary page on the funeral home website.

The family asks that memorials in Joyce’s name be made to Christ Community Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Nicholas Hospital for the excellent care given to Joyce.
