Obituary

On Wednesday March 30th we lost a true original.

Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, to Winifred Josephine Malley and Howard Malley, Lorraine Moran was a graduate of Kings County Hospital School of Nursing (RN), Marymount Manhattan College (BS), and CUNY Hunter College where she earned a Master’s in Nursing Administration and Education. Her nursing career spanned decades, and continents, and disciplines, culminating in her position as Assistant Director of Nursing, Critical Care Division, Metropolitan Hospital, NYC.

Following a Coney Island courtship, she married the love of her life, Eugene T. Moran, in 1954. In 1960 with three sons in tow, the young family relocated to Tehran, Iran, to pursue opportunities with Gene’s position at Standard Oil.

Overseas, Lorraine continued her burgeoning nursing career, while her thirst for adventure led the family to many exotic destinations including London, Moscow, Ireland, France, Rome, Geneva, Berlin, Beirut, Isfahan, and the Caspian Sea. A few years after returning to Brooklyn, Lorraine and Gene made their home in Teaneck, NJ, where they resided for 49 years.

Greatly involved with the AKC, she and Gene bred, handled, and showed Pekingese and Tibetan Spaniels. Her dogs earned the conformation of nine championship titles. A long-time member of the Kennel Club of Northern New Jersey and the Non-Sporting Group Club of the Garden State, she was an active board member and breed educator. For 30 years, most weekends she attended dog shows at venues across the country, including Madison Square Garden.

Lorraine was kind, generous, an indomitable loving spirit with a sweet soprano laugh. A fine seamstress, a great cook. She enjoyed life, her family, her work, photography, bowling, bridge, mahjong, Jeopardy, and her passion for dogs. Anyone that met her, never forgot her.

She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband Gene.

She leaves behind her sons, Bruce and wife Gina; Brian and Keith; granddaughters Kelly and husband Evan Tsun; Megan and husband Adam Steele; Caitlyn, Shannon, and Fiona.

A celebration of the life of Lorraine Moran will be held at St. Anastasia Church, 1095 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666 on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 11 AM.

We had the pleasure of Lorraine’s company for 88 years and one day.
