Allan Gilliland

Allan Lee Gilliland, 79, of Ottumwa, died at 6:40 a.m. April 24, 2022 at Vista Woods Care Center. He was born June 9, 1942 in Hayesville, Keokuk County, IA to Hubert G. and Helen Woodard Gilliland. He married Joan Carr April 8, 1967. A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1960, he served 2 years in the U.S. Army, having been stationed in Hawaii. Allan worked 40 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 2004. Allan was a member of Izaak Walton League and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed being outdoors as well as reading. He loved music and his wood carving. Surviving is his wife, Joan; two daughters, Jennifer (Ryan) Corkrean of Winterset and Susan (Eric) Kozak of West Des Moines; two grandchildren, Michael and Rachael; a sister, June Henry of Sigourney; and sister-in-law, Kay Gilliland. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred Gilliland and Gary (Reva) Gilliland. Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28th at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. For those unable to attend, you may watch the service live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Izaak Walton League or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
