Accident – Glenn Edward Bowser, 83, of Accident, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side, on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Born February 20, 1939 to Charles Raymond and Arletta Matilda (Burkhardt) Bowser, he was the fifth of six children to be reared on the family’s farm, located on “Town Hill” near Accident.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, four of his siblings: Albert Bowser, Elwood Bowser, Loretta Rush, and Alverda Rush; and step-son Joseph Thon III.

After graduating from Northern High School in 1957, Glenn moved to Baltimore to find work and was hired by Bandez, a company that manufactured air compressors. The following year, he obtained employment with the state, surveying roads across Maryland.

He reported to Army basic training in Georgia on September 11, 1962, and then sent to Army’s Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was then assigned to the 7th Artillery 3rd Missle Battalion in Schweinfurt, Germany. He received an honorable discharge on August 18, 1964 and departed Germany. He then served in the Army Reserves for four more years. After discharge, Glenn returned to Baltimore, where he worked at Bethlehem Steel until his retirement in 1990.

For several decades, he was a member of the North Point Yacht Club, where he served as commodore for two terms, and helped with community activities and projects, including Wounded Warrior. He was also a member of the American Legion 71 in Oakland.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and nearly every Canadian providence.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Regina Bowser; three step children, Ronald Thon, Brenda Schimpf, and Jeffrey Thon; sister Norma (and John) Bernard; sister-in-law Lana Hughes and Bonita Church; brother-in-law Claude Church; six step-grand children, four step-great grand children, and many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Zion Lutheran Church, 209 N. Maim St., Accident, MD 21520, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Benjamin Hertel officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the various veterans organizations of Southern Garrett County,
