Erwin "Erv" Louis Handloser Obituary

Age 91, of Leoni Township, passed away at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital on Sunday, April 17, 2022.  He was born in Jackson, Michigan on Saturday, July 19, 1930 to the late John E. and Katherine E. (Schmid) Handloser.  Survived by four children; Ken (Tanya) Handloser, Karen (Paul) Stadnikia, Janice (Dan) Hoffman and Gary (Melissa) Handloser, grandchildren; Lisa Sponseller, Kristi (Jay) Korson, Kevin and Brian Handloser, Eric (Nancy) Allen, Matthew (Jessica) Allen, Jonathan and Kelsey Stadnikia, Jeremy (Brittany Close) Hoffman, Danielle Hoffman, Brady (Rachel Dennison) Hoffman, Brock (Melanie Zondag) Hoffman, Kelli (Garret) Tello, Zachary and Alexander Handloser, great-grandchildren; Anna Sponseller, Brynn and Elodie Korson, Sydney, Kylee, Sophie, Kambrie, Gabriel and Eli Allen, Brianna and James White, in-laws; Carolyn Handloser and Arlene Suggitt, several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Phyllis M. Handloser in 2018, two brothers; Robert and Lawrence Handloser, brothers and sisters-in-law; Martha Handloser, James and Ellie Suggitt and Robert Suggitt.

Erv served the nation in the US Army from 1951 to 1953.  He was an owner/partner for many years of the Vandy Party Store andVandercook Ace Hardware.   He also, in the past, worked for Beiswenger’s, H&R Block preparing tax returns and doing drug testing for Consumers Energy through Tom Allen Enterprises. 

He was a long-time member and Past-President of the Vandercook Lake Lions Club, worked on Habitat for Humanity Projects, and in the past enjoyed square and round dancing and bowling leagues.  Any type of construction work, from building his own home or assisting with his children’s and friend’s building projects, found him cheerfully helping with his knowledge and tools.  He enjoyed family time, traveling, playing cards, fishing and reading.

Erv was a lifetime member of St. Johns United Church of Christ (801 South Mechanic Street, Jackson, MI 49203) where a Celebration of his Life will be held Sunday June 26, 2022 at 2 pm.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm until service time.  Contributions in his memory are directed to St. Johns United Church of Christ.
