Verna Elaine Hoare Obituary

With sadness we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Verna Elaine (Pyke) Hoare of Valley on Sunday, April 17, 2022 in Vimy Court, Bible Hill.

Verna was the youngest child of the late Samuel and Jessie (McCabe) Pyke of Valley. Survived by her husband of 67 years, Ronald Hoare; daughter, Rhonda (Ian) McCarron of Antigonish; granddaughter, Jaime (Blair) Weeks and their children, Adelle, Nash and Tuftin, of PEI; brother-in-law, Kenneth Oar, Phoenix AZ and special cousin, Mildred Underhill of Moncton, NB.

Predeceased by brothers, George and Donald Pyke; brothers-in-law; Ashley Marsters, Keith Hoare; sisters-in-law, Marlene Oar, Ardith Marsters, Lillian Pyke, Norma Pyke and Leona Hoare. Also predeceased by nephews, Barry Hoare and Eric Pyke; nieces, Sara Oar and Dianne Pyke.

Verna worked for many years as an administrative assistant before joining the staff of the newly built Cobequid Educational Centre in 1971. For the next 27 years, she could be found behind the secretary’s desk in the Guidance office, assisting students with their applications and aspirations. Her great joy was in seeing young people excel and grow and she took pride in their accomplishments.

Despite being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis while still in her teens, Verna did not let the disease define her life. She worked full time, was a horse show mother, an expert on foal watch and was always eager to support her daughter’s and granddaughter’s endeavours. A dog lover at heart, Verna spent countless, patient hours training her pets to do unique tricks.

A special thank you to the caring staff at Vimy Court, Bible Hill.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Arthritis Society, SPCA or charity of choice.

Cremation has taken place. A service will be held on June 15th at 11am in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS. Reception to follow.

Words of comfort may be directed to brookridgefarm@yahoo.ca.
