Henry "Hank" Arnold Bergs Obituary

Henry “Hank” Arnold Bergs was born on July 21, 1929 in Glencoe, MN to Henry and Hilda (Klitzke) Bergs. He attended Annandale High School, but his high school years were interrupted by military service. He returned from service and graduated in 1949. Following his graduation, Hank attended and graduated from Dunwoody College of Technology.

His military service consisted of the occupation of Japan in 1946 and recalled to duty to serve in Korea. Hank was honorably discharged in 1951.

On January 5, he married Marlene Redpath at Dayton Avenue Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, MN. The couple lived in St. Paul for a few years and then moved to Sisseton, SD. They owned a jewelry store from 1954 to 1957, then moved to Tracy, MN and owned a jewelry store there from 1958 to 1977. In 1978, they moved to Lake Miltona and enjoyed lake life until 1996 when they moved into Alexandria.

Each year in mid-May, Hank moved to a cabin on Leech Lake in Walker, MN where he enjoyed endless days of fishing and the lake life thru the early fall when he returned to his condo in Alexandria. He had an uncanny ability to recall and tell jokes and was always fun to be around. Hank also enjoyed cooking, baking, and being around family and good friends.

Hank died on April 17, 2022, peacefully in his home. He was preceded in death by his wife: Marlene; sisters: Hyacinth and Helen; brother: John; and step grandson: Jason. Hank is survived by his sons: Greg (Judy) Bergs, Glenn (Chris) Bergs, and Jeff (Robin) Bergs; his sister: Jean Salmela; 8 grandchildren: Breanne, Brandon, Chandra, Carl, Jamie, Aaron, AJ, Alicia; and 15 great grandchildren.
