Martin "Marty" Douglas Gibson Obituary

Martin " Marty" Douglas Gibson

1959- 2022

Marty was born on July 19, 1959, the second of four children born to Douglas and Emma Jane "Janie" Gibson in Fort Worth, Texas. He was welcomed into heaven on April 14, 2022 after he succumbed to injuries he sustained in a tragic accident while working on the family property near Clayton, Oklahoma.

Marty graduated from Western Hill's High School and proclaimed that was all the schooling he needed.

He married Sherri Reed on March 17, 1990 and they recently celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on their Oklahoma property. Marty and Sherri devoted much of their time in ministry to children at the various churches they attended over the years bringing many to a relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Marty was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed working outdoors at both their properties in Azle, Texas and Oklahoma.

Marty was preceded in passing by his father, Doug.

He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his mother, Janie; his wife, Sherri; his sister, Sue Gibson of Illinois; his brother, Forrest and his wife, Laura and their children Millie and Jeffrey of Missouri; his brother, Mike and his wife, Susan of California; his daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Dustin Russell; his son, Reed and his wife Areli Gibson, and his bonus children, Rachel Suggs and Seth Dunagan.

He was "Papa" to his grandchildren, Braydon Russell, Kaisyn and Kinley Camp and Audrey and Ally Gibson. He also is survived by three aunts, an uncle, and numerous cousins.

Marty was affectionately known as "Uncle Hulah" to all of Sherri's sister, Darla's family, including her husband John Bell and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of whom he was a role model and mentor to throughout their lives.

A special thank you to Deputy Goode and their neighbor, Chock for the support and help you were to Marty's grand-nephew Alex Pastre, who was with him when the accident happened. The family also extends a special thanks to the heroic efforts given by Antlers fire Department and Delbert Gay and all the EMS staff.

A celebration of Marty's life will be Thursday April 21st at Azle Funeral Chapel at 2pm.  Everyone is welcome to come and help celebrate Marty's life.  A life very well lived.
