Allan “Al” R. Mouw Slayton, Minnesota Allan “Al” R. Mouw, age 75, of Slayton, Minnesota and formerly of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Murray County Medical Center in Slayton. His services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Aaron Punt ~ officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation with the Family Present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Arrangements under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home; Sheldon, Iowa Allan “Al” Ray Mouw, the son of Morris and Wilma (Swets) Mouw was born July 20, 1946 in Hull, Iowa. He received his education at the Christian School in Hospers, attended Floyd-Valley High School and graduated from NITC in Sheldon. His service to his country was in the Army beginning in December of 1965 serving during the Vietnam War where Al earned a bronze star. On July 2, 1968 he was united in marriage to Lorene Visser at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sheldon where he operated Mouw’s Mobil Service on the corner of Washington Ave and East 9th Street. Before his retirement he worked as a mechanic for the Iowa Department of Transportation in the Sheldon location. He held this position for 20 years. In the couple’s retirement they moved to Lake Shetek near Slayton, Minnesota to make their home in 2009. The couple enjoyed their lake Home in summer months and they wintered in Florida. Al passed away suddenly on Saturday April 16, 2022 at the Murray Medical Center in Slayton, Minnesota reaching the age of 75 years eight months and twenty-six days. He was a former member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and was currently attending the First Reformed Church in Slayton, Minnesota. He enjoyed the lake having his children and grandchildren come for visits. He was always helping his neighbors with projects which he enjoyed. Al is survived by his wife, Lorene Mouw of Slayton, Minnesota; sons, Chris Mouw and friend, Claudia of George, Iowa; Brent (Melissa) Mouw of Sheldon, Iowa and Greg Mouw of Hospers, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Syndie), Rachel (Kalab), Keaton, Ethan, Brielle, Dulcie and Amira, his brothers and sisters; Dorothy (Frank) DeBoer in Michigan, Marilyn (Glenn) Westra of Rock Valley, Iowa; Leon (Fran) Mouw of Boyden, Iowa; Judy Hoogendoorn of Milford, Iowa, Karen (Dave) Postema of Grapevine, Texas, Glen (Lois) Mouw of Sioux Center, Iowa, Cheryl Mouw of Panama City, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Lois Mouw of Colton, South Dakota and Janice Mouw in California also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Warren and Roger Mouw.
