Jerry D. Ambroz, 71 of Grand Island, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at CHI Health - St. Francis in Grand Island, with his sister and brother-in-law by his side.
Private Graveside Services for Jerry’s relatives will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Jerry was born to Paul & Dorothy (Starkey) Ambroz on October 5, 1950, in Grand Island, Nebraska. He grew up in St. Paul where he attended school, graduating in 1968. He worked with his dad at the truck stop until they sold it and moved to Lake Tahoe, Nevada in 1971. Jerry & his brother enjoyed working at the casinos but returned to Nebraska in 1974. He owned a furniture store in Central City while working at Atlantic Homes Manufacturing. Later, he moved to Grand Island where he worked at Luzenac America and started Ambroz Mowing. After he retired, he continued with his lawn service and drove as a contract carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for ten years.
Jerry’s interests were hunting and fishing, traveling in the mountains, autos of all makes, and collecting guns.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister & brother-in-law, Judy & Dave Varley of Grand Island; three nephews and their wives, Travis & Kim O’Gorman of Alliance, Trevor & Samantha Varley of Princeton, and Trenton & Renea Varley of Central City; three great-nieces and six great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jackie “Jack” Ambroz; and nephew, Tristan Varley.
