Linda Lambert Obituary

Linda Lambert, 82, of Cedar Rapids passed on April 6, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City. Linda was born on January 4, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Jon Charles (Chuck) and Fern (Warner) Crawley. Linda was the second of two daughters, following big sister Diane and making life much more “interesting” for the family of four. Linda’s favorite memories of her youth were of the time spent on the Warner family farm in North English, Iowa under the watchful, kind eyes of Uncle Stanley and Aunt Bernadine. It was on the farm that Linda’s independent, spirited and passionate personality was truly formed, earning her the nickname “Hazard”. Cousins Carolyn Warner Elwood and Lloyd Warner, as well as her sister Diane endured Linda’s adventures and have many tales to tell. We thank them for their continued love and care for Linda throughout her life. Linda met and married Larry Omann and had two daughters, Lisa and Jennifer, and later married Martin Chapman and added two more daughters, Amy and Anne, to complete her family of girls. Her life was dedicated to raising her girls to be strong, empathetic women. Linda loved every friend her girls brought into her life, and served as an endless source of support and amusement, making sure everyone felt welcomed and loved. Linda’s love for kids and animals resulted in a house full of both and there was rarely a dull moment. No animal or child was ever turned away, left unfed or unhugged. She was a fierce advocate for all, even if they did not know they needed her help, like the ungrateful, misguided ground squirrel she saved from death. The price for Linda was a series of rabies shots. She would tell you it was worth it. As her girls grew and required less of her time, Linda ventured into the workforce. Her perfectionism made her the perfect employee in retail and business, where engaging with the public came naturally for her. She earned a business degree from Southeast Community College where she was “that student” who always had the answers and had all her work done. She retired from the Omaha Home For Boys after many years of dedicated service. Linda loved animals and nature, gardening and books, and anything that made people laugh. She had a strong sense of right and wrong and would voice her opinion loudly and proudly. She was an open minded and compassionate human who fought for what she believed in. She was a force of nature. Linda leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law Diane (Crawley) and Howard Rattner of Cedar Rapids, IA, and her twin nieces Maureen and Jeanette Rattner both from California. She will be missed by her four daughters: Lisa Chapman (Philip Gabriel) of Los Angeles, CA; Jennifer McGowan (Matt) of Coralville, IA; Amy Dunagan (Brad) of Valley Park, MO and Anne Chapman-Biegger (John Biegger) of Jacksonville, FL. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will help carry on her legacy: Grandchildren Michael Kaplan (Allie), Samantha Gabriel, Austin Gabriel (Jazmyn), Caitlin McGowan, Paul McGowan, Heather Newman (Ben), Ethan Newman, Anthony Biegger (Brisonne), Kailie Biegger and Sarah Biegger; Great Grandchildren Hunter, Lenore, Lorelei, Adrian, Kingston, Reed, Embrianna and River. Linda’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We will forever miss our funny, caring and loving matriarch, but we are comforted by our memories of her unconditional love and acceptance. Memorials can be made to an animal organization of your choice to honor her dedication to helping animals in need.
