Charles "Ed" Edward Gregory Obituary

Charles Edward (Ed) Gregory, a retired warrior in the U.S. Army with over 20 years of combat leadership and service to the United States, entered into eternal life on April 14, 2022, at the age of 91.

Born in Ohio to William and Lucetta Gregory, Ed met his future wife, the late Nerina S. at a USO dance in Italy. He spoke no Italian, and she spoke no English - a perfect match.  He won over Nerina’s family’s skepticism with his charm, smile and generosity of spirit.  He and Nerina were married and enjoyed the richness of passion and raising a family for 52 years. Ed is survived by his daughters, Patricia, Ellen, Barbara and Glenda and his son, William. He enjoyed being a grandfather to Jennifer, Richard, Sean, Heather, Michael, Brandon, Grant, John Adam, Emma and Caroline. He was a Father-in-law and great friend to Preston (Rusty), the late Jim Sanders,  John, Susan and Brian. His legacy continues with his great grandchildren, Tabitha, Madison, Bella Mia, Kennedy, Hunter and Logan.

Ed took great pride in serving his country. Ed was a highly decorated service man who was awarded Two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Korean Service Medal among others in recognition of his service to our country. Ed sacrificed much for his country often spending years away from his growing family.

Ed made friends everywhere. He loved the staff at Sitter and Barfoot, the VA center that took care of him during his final years. He would share his sweetness by giving the staff candy and praises. Ed loved to light up the dance floor, while still living in his home, he loved to cook a delicious breakfast for his visiting family. He enjoyed fishing and a cold Budweiser. Ed would no doubt spark jealousy with his full head of (mostly black) hair, and the fancy outfits he wore at the Italian American Club! He was generous to a fault, and always had great pride in his family and their accomplishments.  He was very proud of his children. Ed loved to dress well and was well known in the communities where he lived. Ed was spirited and generous but most of all he learned how to love and to love hard. Ed will enter God’s kingdom with his right palm out inviting Nerina to the next dance.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 11 A.M. at Lafayette Memorial Park West.
