Mary Virginia Marshall Obituary

Mary Virginia Marshall, 80 of Montrose, IA died Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose, IA. She was born January 21, 1942 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of James Edward and Dorothy Bowen Comstock. Mary graduated from Montrose High School with the last class to graduate from Montrose in 1960. On June 30, 1963 she was united in marriage to Richard J. Marshall at the Montrose Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2020. In her younger years, Mary had been employed by Shaffer Pen. She later worked for the Montrose School System and then at the Montrose Health Center, where she worked for eighteen years. Mary was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose. She also was a member of TOPS and bowled on the Coffee Club Leagues at the Americana Bowl through the years. Mary was very active in the community and helped with Cub Scouts and volunteered at the Watermelon Festival. Mary enjoyed painting ceramics, collecting dolls and watching her favorite television shows, The Nanny, starring Fran Dresser, the Golden Girls and watching game shows. As a young child, Mary’s grandfather was employed as a train depot agent in Montrose and she and her grandmother would take the train to Chicago and go shopping for the day. Mary was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to go on shopping trips with her kids, traveling with her family and hosting family dinners for everyone to enjoy. She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Thompson (Doug Weber) of Montrose, IA and Vickie Lamborn (Chad) of Donnellson, IA, one son, Timothy Marshall (Justine) of Wever, IA, eight grandchildren, Aaron Thompson, Abby Menke, Vaughan Marshall, Cade Marshall, Kayla Sanders, Jeremy Lamborn, Nicole Farmer and Ali Lamborn. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Paislee Lamborn, Tucker Holmes, Hoyt Sanders, Kamryn Farmer, Carson Cantrell, Greg Menke, Arrow Sanders, Kohltyn Farmer and Mack Menke. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, James Edward Jr. in infancy and one sister, Dorothy Ann in infancy. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on April 19, 2022 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Derek Olsen officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service from 12 noon-2:00 p.m. with the family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to the Montrose Riverfront Inc.
